On March 26, 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched 36 OneWeb satellites into orbit using its heaviest payload rocket, the LVM3. This mission, called LVM3-M3/OneWeb India-2, was the second mission for the Network Access Associates Limited, United Kingdom (OneWeb Group Company) under a commercial agreement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) to launch a total of 72 satellites into Low-Earth Orbits.
The launch took place from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota, and with the successful launch of these 36 satellites, OneWeb has completed its constellation of 618 satellites. The LVM3 rocket used in this mission was in its sixth flight and featured upgraded S200 motors with enhanced margins suitable for the upcoming Gaganyaan mission.
Overall, the successful launch of these 36 satellites brings the total number of OneWeb satellites in orbit to 618, which is a significant milestone in OneWeb's goal of providing global internet connectivity through its satellite network. The next step for OneWeb is to continue to expand its constellation, and the successful partnership with ISRO and NSIL will likely play a crucial role in achieving this objective.
